The Poker Tournaments - How they Work
Poker tournaments are multi player games of poker where the players compete against one another for the title of champion of the poker tournament. The poker tournaments usually have a "buy-in" participation fee which also grants the participant a certain amount of poker tournament tokens to be used in the multi player game. It is often possible to purchase more of such tokens by purchasing a second "buy-in". The top few players of a poker tournament receive cash prizes and the champion player wins the jackpot. Today, there are several notable poker tournaments that take place around the globe. These tournaments typically have preliminary rounds with later by-ins for the late comers. The poker tournaments climax in a grand finale which is often fully televised and covered by the media. The first place prize at such tournaments is rivaled only by the fame of the heroic poker player who claims the prize. Major poker tournaments of note are the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker - both based in Las Vegas. The Europeans also have their own World Series of Poker and the Australian have the Crown Australian Poker Championship - also known as the "Aussie Millions". In these events, buy-ins can be quite expensive (several thousand dollars) but the jackpot is equally impressive and can total several million dollars. Often, preliminary tournaments can be found where the winner will be sponsored to enter the greater poker event as part of the prize of the tournament. The online poker preliminary events have proven to be quite important as these online multi player games give the opportunity to as yet unknown poker talents to be discovered. These are skilled players who without the option of online poker would probably have never tried to participate in the poker tournament in the first place.
